Deer Fun Facts
During the mating season, female deer will gather in the rutting areas while they watch the male deer compete for them through displays of male dominance such as spraying of urine and sounds of roaring. Fighting for the females begin with one male deer taking the challenge on the deer that holds the harem of female deer. They first roar at each other and after several minutes of vocalizing, will walk parallel to each other. As they assess their competition, they will grow tense as one of them will lower its head down to lock the antlers with the other. As this happens, both male deer will begin to push at each other to see which of them would give up in the fight. As they push at the other, the tension increases until the successful deer gets to push the other deer back. When this happens, the losing deer will accept defeat and run. |
