Did you know that the southern pudu which is native to Chile and Argentina, is the world’s smallest deer? It is also an endangered species. According to scientists, an adult deer may weigh from any where up to 700 pounds but an adult southern pudu only weighs 20 pounds once it reaches maturity. These animals are known to be good jumpers regardless of their size and will bark in the face of danger. The southern pudu is herbivorous and consumes vegetables like fresh leaves, grains, kale and carrots. When provoked, the deer will attempt to evade its predators by running in a zi-zag fashion to mislead its chasers. |
