Saint John the Baptist is most often associated with baptism and the forgiveness of sins. His mother is said to be the cousin of the Virgin Mary. He would attract large crowds asking them to make penance and to abstain from sinning. When he met Jesus, the story goes that Saint John the Baptist recognized him as the messiah stating that it is from Jesus that he should take the baptism from. His Feast Day is recognized as June 24th. The beheading is recognized as August 29 and was said to have occured in what is now Jordan.
