Deer Fun Facts

Did you know that deer are susceptible to natural predators like the brown bear, bobcat, cougar, wolves, coyote and eagles? Young deer for instance can fall prey to the golden eagle. In Indonesia, the native deer called the Timor hog deer are usually preyed upon by the poisonous Komodo dragon. Around the world, humans are also thought to cause a decline in deer population since hunting deer have become a pastime in some countries leading to a decline in some species of deer. Although the deer has a life span of about 12 years, they are also not immune to death caused by train and auto accidents as well as natural disasters like forest fires. Some deer also die when their antlers get caught in trees or because of accidents happening when trekking through snowy mountains and cliffs.
