Bear Facts
The black bear is one of the common and most numerous of the three bear species found in North America after the polar bear and the grizzly bear. While they tend to shuffle along slowly when moving, these bears are known to be excellent climbers and are often seen scaling trees. That’s because they have sharp claws which allow them to grip the tree well. In fact, their curiosity starts very young and black bear cubs are known to be so adventurous they are usually found scaling as high as the treetops! One of the reasons they do this is to keep them protected from predators. |
