Saint Bernadette, cannonized in 1933, was born Marie-Bernarde Soubirous in 1844. She received 18 apparitions of Our Lady who identified herself as Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception. The visions gradually led her to a spring where a church was later built in honor of the Virgin Mary and remains one of the most sacred sites for Catholic pilgrimages. Reports have indicated that St. Bernadette's body has never decomposed despite the body being exhumed three times pointing to this as one of the miracles to support her cannonizations. She is also recognized as the Patron Saint of Sick Persons, of the family and for poverty.
