The remote city of Tortugeuro, Costa Rica is one of the largest green sea turtle nesting sites where authorities and conservationists managed to engage in several efforts to protect the population of green turtles. As conservationists settled in the area to devise means to protect sea turtles, they also educated villagers on the need to protect sea turtles and that income to the region could be increased instead through tourism. The move towards such education helped contain the poaching of sea turtles and now, Tortuguero has reported a 400% increase in nesting green turtles.
