Saint Lucia of Syracuse lived around 283 AD and was persecuted by Emperor Diocletian. As a young child, she had consecrated her virginity to God and had refused marriage. Many times, she was pushed to a corner and forced to make the sacrifice to the Roman Emperor. Each time, she would deny and the punishment would be swift and harsh. She is often seen holding a dish because it was said she had her eyes gouged in defiance. The story on this has been vague. Not much is known but this amazing saint is venerated highly in Europe and in England as well. She is a Roman Catholic matyr and is the saint for the blind and those with eye trouble.
Created in white marble and is hand carved by artisans.
