Studies have shown that monkeys and ape like the chimpanzee may be much smarter than we think. Although it is conceded that chimpanzees and monkeys share the same DNA gene pool as us resembling almost 98% of our DNA structure, they may also be able to retain more memory than we think. In other words, chimps may have better memory than we think. A 2007 study conducted at Japan’s Kyoto University revealed that a young male chimpanzee called Ayumu was shown to demonstrate remarkable memory. Ayumu which was trained using touch screen, was able to recall a random series of nine numbers from 1 to 9. It would tap the numbers in the right order even after seeing the number displayed for just a fraction of a second.
