Turtle Facts
Green turtles are one of the popular sea turtles which are caught for human consumption. They are also one of the largest reaching some 5 feet in length and could live up to 80 years in their wildlife conditions. Female turtles would leave the ocean in the night to lay their eggs on land choosing beaches for this purpose. With their flippers, the mother turtles would dig a hole and then fill it with as many as 100 to 200 eggs. She would then cover the pit and return to the sea leaving the eggs to hatch after about two months. Some mother turtles are unlucky enough to be caught by waiting poachers who would patiently wait for the mother to lay her eggs which they would collect and then kill her for meat.
