Oil spills near nesting sites of sea turtles can cause a lot of problems to sea turtles. When sea turtles come close to the oil, it can get absorbed into their system and cause damage to the digestive tract and other organs. Sometimes, mother sea turtles may also refuse to lay their eggs in nesting sites that are close to oil spills. Additionally, sea turtle eggs which are laid in such areas can get contaminated because of the oil leading to underdevelopment of the hatchlings. The hatchlings will also suffer as they make their way to the water because the oil from the beach will get caught on their bodies.
