Turtle Facts
There were 26 oil spill incidents in the Gulf of Mexico between 1992 and 2001 caused by vessels, pipelines, platforms and docks. Research on loggerhead turtles showed that they became so desperate for food that they began eating tar balls. All this affected the health of the turtles and they began to develop large esophageal swellings resulting in buoyancy issues. Oil pollution is a serious problem and needs to be contained through education and laws. If we do not take the trouble to protect our environment, we expose marine life to uncertainties and this can cause a lot of problems in their survival. |
