Crane Facts
Most crane statues are based on the sandhill cranes. Do you know that there are six different subspecies of the sandhill cranes? These attractive and social birds are distinguished because of the gray color and carmine unfeathered crown. They also have a white cheek patch on their face. Of the six subspecies, three are migratory and known to breed in the northern United States and Canada. During winter, these birds will move in the southern parts of the United States and Mexico. The other three species which are non-migratory include all in the endangered list - the Florida sandhill, Cuban sandhill and the Mississippi sandhill.
