Golf Fun Facts:
Did you know that golf was once banned in Scotland because it was considered dangerous and a nuisance? James II’s Act of Parliament of March 1457 was initiated to ban both golf and football. It is the earliest known evidence that golf existed at that time. The ban was also initiated in part because it troubled the authorities that the young were more interested in spending their leisure time playing golf and football instead of practicing archery. Because the country faced the threat of invasion, military training was compulsory for all males over 12 and the young seemed more interested in playing golf than thinking about joining the military.
