Turtle Facts
Did you know that oil spills and chemicals released into the ocean will affect the survival of sea turtles? This especially gets worse as sea turtles lay their eggs on beaches stained with oil. When the mother sea turtle lays her eggs on oily beaches, some of the oil will contaminate the eggs she lays into the pit. If the eggs are exposed to oil during the last weeks of the incubation period, hatchlings may not survive. Even if they do, a number of them will have deformities. Also, hatchlings which survive will have a tough time making their way to the water because of the slick on the beaches.
