Did you know that the blue crane is the national bird of South Africa? The blue crane, also known as the Stanley crane, is native to South Africa and has a light blue-grey color with a long neck, long legs and beautiful wing plumes. They are found in the Karoo and also roam the grasslands of KwaZulu-Natal. These birds are known to be generally quiet but will make a loud vocal call that is high-pitched and croaky. Blue cranes are also not as social as their counterparts and have a male that is dominant in their hierarchy. |
