Sea turtles are vulnerable to the efforts by fishermen who hunt for fishes and then accidentally catch them in their fishing gear. The sea turtles are accidentally captured, injured or killed as the fishermen lay their nets into the sea to catch fish. This situation happens as the turtles begin their migratory plans and cross paths with the fishing trawlers and ships that work in the same waters the turtles use to cross over. The turtles get attracted to the bait and consequently get caught on the hooks used to catch the fishes. When the turtle gets caught on the hook, it will be stuck and cannot get to the surface to breathe. As a result, they will drown. Most fisheries use long lines with several thousand hooks and lures stretching several miles to catch the fishes which move in the same path as the turtles.
