Elephant Facts

Did you know that elephants consume about 50 tons of food every year and that this helps with seed dispersal? They are herbivores and consume bark, grass, shoots and leaves. At times, they have been known to use their tusks to dig the ground for roots and oftentimes for water in dry conditions. The dung of the elephant is said to contain a rich amount of seeds which will grow into grass, shrubs and trees. This is one of the reasons why the spread of vegetation depends on elephants because they are spread far and wide resulting in a greener eco-system.
