Monkey Fun Facts:
The three wise monkeys are based on a popular carving created by Japanese sculptor Hidari Jongoro in the 17th century and represent three monkeys sitting in a row. As one examines the sculpture, they will notice that one monkey covers its ears, the next has its mouth covered and the third is seen covering his eyes. This sculpture which was once popular in Japan is now represented in many forms all over the world. Some would show other animals like pigs as an instance to add a whimsical appeal but most sculptors prefer to create the sculpture in the form of monkeys to make a point. In Japan, the sculpture sits in the Nikko Tosho-gu shrine in Nikko, Japan.
