Our Gloria Victis sculpture translates to a statue that means "Glory to the Vanquished". It is said that Antonin Mercie sculpted the statue to bring glory to the French who were defeated in the Franco-Prussian war. He also did this statue to remember his friend who was lost to the war, artist Henri Regnault. The sculpture highlights an angel holding a fallen French man whose head is pivoted to look downwards rather than upwards. He also cut the sword to reflect the loss by the French in the war.
Here, our Gloria Victis sculpture comes beautifully detailed and is based on the actual piece with some modifications to cover the nakedness of the soldier.
Bronze sculpture.
